Title: Responsiveness
Post by: avvie on September 19, 2009, 06:29:24 PM
Was anyone else experiencing some SERIOUSLY slow load times up until a little while ago?

I though Avast was freezing me out, and turned it off.

The iPower mySQL server has serious load-balancing issues (which is hosting
this site). Every time I go to complain, the slowness goes away :-) ..

But, I'll keep working on them until they either fix it, or move me to a less
loaded SQL server.

So, I don't think it's you....

I was thinking it was Firefox...because I kept switching to emulation or IE8 and the pages would zing through.

Dont' think so .. I had a similar problem with iPower's SQL server and they restarted
it .. that's the problem with shared servers .. all it takes is one rogue or pig SQL
client and it drags the whole thing down.

I have a dedicated server that I may move this to if it becomes chronic....

I just spent an hour on the phone with them ... they've tweaked some parameters
and think it should be better.

There's another bit they have to do with the SQL server .. and then they promise it
will be *much* better.

I hope that's the case.

I haven't quite hit crazy fast yet ... but I've been experiencing the slow ...

Regardless, Jeff M., you are *da man* for hosting this one!!!  And it feels so comfy that it's the same SMF interface!  (All I'm missing are the smileys that TOP had.  ;) )

Horrible right now.

Almost a minute between clicking and going somewhere.

Twice it couldn't even connect.

I'll keep bitching until they fix it. Sorry guys.

Like others, intermittent slowness here tonight.

Where are the servers (west coast, east coast, etc.)?

(EDIT: must be east coast)

Too slow to be usable.

Then OK.

Then not.

Comes and goes.

I called to complain again.
They had closed the support ticket because
the tech didn't experience the problem.
They're killin' me!

Yep, it seems like an intermittent thing.  Sometimes it's absolutely fine and other times it's about a min between clicks for me.

Word to the wise:

If this is not a business site, you might get an "upgrade for guaranteed uptime" pitch.

it's the mySQL server that they have us one. It is extremely erratic. I am pleading that
they move us off to another one that isn't quite as slammed.

Putting things in perspective, it was a good three to four weeks before TOP stabilized. It's intermittently slow, yes-- but it'll get better.
