Hi Guys,
I hope everything works .. I moved the forum according to
the SMF guidelines .. seems to be working . and *much* faster.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
BTW.. The gallery is not up..
It looks like the SQL import may have lost a little bit of history when they moved
us to the new server. Some sort of weird configuration error happened . . which is
probably why the whole site went down.
If your user and your posts went away... I apologize ... what can I say iPower sucks ...
tell your friends.
jeff
Ps .. if you want to update your links .. try..
http://theotherotherplace.org
Jeff
Well, the DNS seems to be done propagating, but the redirection from techbreakfast goes to "theotherplace.org".
Glad to have you back - I went through withdrawal, and it wasn't good. :)

Yup . but we seem to have lost some history ... wherever they moved the SQL database to, the
link to that new database got wedged .. and we seem to have lost history up to when they
moved it.
What a bunch of idiots is all I can say.
jeff
I noticed the avatars are not displaying, so I went to update mine. I get the following error:
QuoteThe attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
Some directories or other permissions not yet set?
I'm not trying to be a pest - just noting symptoms ;)
Much snappier performance - nice. 8)
Thanks, Jeff.

I know how you feel - I almost had to log into the L6 forum. ;)
Sorry about the avatars .. the SMF forum move instructions are not quite
accurate ;-)

Hey we're back, just in time for my coffee. Morning everyone :-*.

Hi Greta,
It is way faster .. but we lost a bit of history that I'll try and get back...
jeff
are some of the posts missing? Seems that my posts from the last couple of days are AWOL.....

Yes ... unfortunately, we lost some history..
jeff
those were my most brilliant posts ever.

:P
Phew, we're back! Good job Jeff, this is much faster. :)

Cool, Those who win always get to rewrite their own history :D.
Hey I like the new emoticons. (oh and sports has also gone)
I dunno, it's still got problems over here. It appears to be divided into 20 million mini forums.

What does it look like? .. It could be the DNS server propagation hasn't hit AUS yet.
jeff
All good here Jeff, thanks for making the switch.
I love the theotherotherplace.org address, great!
Much better response time; thanks Jeff.
Lickity split here! :)
But almost every one of my posts are gone. Oh, well.

Thanks for making the switch Jeff!
Thanks Jeff. It pops now.
Phew that was bad, being without i mean.
Very fast in UK nice move Jeff.
Cheers
Mike
Looking good from my Oklahoma hotel room (playing at the state fair today). Very fast page refreshes!
Thanks!
Super fast even on a 3G connected iPhone. Nice :)
Yes - very fast. I stopped by L6 and it's painfully slow.
Excellent speed.
Too bad some stuff (and maybe some people) got lost, but it was better that than having an unusable forum.
When I couldn't sign on last night I assumed there had been a Level 6 terrorist attack to knock out the forum.
Cool beans. Running smoothly here.
Thanks Jeff
EDIT: This is running VERY fast.

A tale of the 3-stooges over at iPower.... when they moved the database to another server,
they didn't relink the account so that that was the default location for mySQL databases.
Another technician noticed that the databases weren't being pointed to by any hosts
on that server, thought they were abandoned, and deleted them.
The original copy of the database existed on the old/super slow server and I was able to have
them re-link it .. and I immediately exported. it...
So, we lost about 4 days of activity .. my apologies.
Reeediculous. Never ever ever use iPower .. or Dot5 (they are the same
company). How they can sell a "pro" package with the way they run their business
is beyond me.
Anyway .. we're on a much more capable host .. and we've got 300Gig all to
ourselves! .. What shall we do with it all ? :-)

I have a few ideas...
Oh .. this is too good .. iPower closed the support ticket with this post:
"Hello Jeff,
It seems to be a temporary issue. I was able to access your forum http://techbreakfast.com/muse/ without any error. Could you please check it from your end? If you still experience the same issue, please provide us the exact URL and complete steps to replicate the issue so that we can investigate further.
If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.
Sincerely,

This shit-head did not even notice that the site had a URL re-direct to a completely different
ISP.
Unfreaking believable.
jeff
They restored the forum, which is why they can access it. I hadn't updated my bookmark yet, and I went straight to the old location.
I don't want to deal with them ... I'm just going to nuke it...

+1 I also prefer a few fat folders to lots of thin ones.
Not a deal breaker though! :D
And the new server is significantly better so many thanks for that Jeff 8)
Thanks for managing this chaos, Jeff M. You da man!
It's ok bro. Thanks!

It's 1and1.com .. I'm really happy with them .. they take care of my dedicated
server and a few other sites. Good tech support and great throughput.
jeff
How is the performance for everyone? It has been consistently good when
i've used it....
thanks,
jeff
Good here.
Real good here.
No probs yet :D
Quick as can be.
Very quick here, and has been since the move to a new server.
Zoomy! :)
Fast as M on meth shredding.

BTW, the DNS propagation happened for theotherotherplace.com too ...

IIRC, "theotherotherplace" was the name of the temporary TOP forum hosted by a particularly sensitive individual from the Pacific Northwest - I wonder how he will react when he discovers this place? ::)

Yeah... I'm waiting.
Thank God for this place. Saves me from curling up in a corner.
You know, not many people understand ths fucked up creative world we live in. Many have shoved it off into a corner. Some of us have been cornered by it. Some have turned it into a lucrative business.
Another rambling bunch of bullshit... sorry. just letting you all know I'm still here....

I've said it many times, Mike, and I'm not sure you actually believe me.....
But I'm serious when I tell you that you were one of the inspirations for quitting my day job and getting into this full-time, even if it took me years to do it.
So keep inspiring me! ;D
